Playfair Mining Ltd. - Extensive Tungsten Assets
April 8, 2011 @ 10:38 am In Tungsten Stocks

Playfair Mining Ltd. (CVE:PLY) is a Canadian exploration company with a diverse portfolio of projects in Newfoundland & Labrador, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. The Company is primarily exploring for tungsten, but has exposure to other metals, including copper, silver, rare earth elements, molybdenum, and gold. All of Playfair's projects are 100%-owned. Together, Playfair's tungsten properties contain more than an estimated 5.5 million MTUs of WO3, in both combined NI 43-101 compliant and non-compliant resource categories. In mid-April, the Company completed a +3,500m winter drill program on its Seal Lake copper - silver project.

Of all of the Company's tungsten assets, the Grey River Tungsten Project is perhaps closest to a production decision. Located near the Village of Grey River, the 1,750 hectare property sits on the south coast of Newfoundland with access to the world's shipping lanes via the Atlantic Ocean. The property was explored by Asarco from 1957 to 1970 through geological mapping, trenching, drilling, a 6,300 foot long adit, bulk sampling and metallurgical testing. To date, more than 300 Tungsten (wolframite) enriched quartz greisen veins have been discovered. Asarco had destined the main #10 Vein for production; however a price drop in tungsten made production unprofitable at the time. In 2007, after drilling the #10 Vein, Playfair reported a NI 43-101 inferred resource estimate of 16.1M lbs of WO3, from 852,000 tonnes at an average grade of 0.86% WO3. The Company feels there is great potential for further expansion of the main deposit, as well as the property's many other veins which have yet to be explored in detail.
Risby Tungsten - Yukon Territory, Canada (89,400,000 lbs)
The advanced-stage Risby Tungsten Deposit is a scheelite-bearing skarn occurrence located in east central Yukon and is accessible by a 25 km winter tractor road from an all-weather highway. The property is located approximately 55 kilometres west of Ross River. Intrusive rock activity has produced sediment hosted tungsten (scheelite) skarn mineralization, with lesser copper and molybdenite mineralization. Risby deposit mineralization is found in two proximal and parallel trending horizons, the upper and lower skarn horizons; both of which occur close to and parallel the intrusive quartz monzonite contact. The property was worked on from 1968 to 1982 by the Caltor Syndicate and Hudson Bay Exploration and Development Co. Ltd. Together their exploration efforts included 48 diamond drill holes (7,057 metres), geological mapping, trenching, and ground geophysics. Recent work by Playfair includes diamond drilling, resource expansion and a 2009 NI 43-101 compliant inferred resource calculation of 8,537,000 tonnes of 0.475% WO3 at a 0.2% cut-off. Playfair feels there is great potential for further expansion of the Risby deposit, as its full extent has yet to be defined, with on strike mineralization remaining open in two directions.
